STEPHEN H. SULMEYER, J.D., Ph.D., is a lawyer, clinical psychologist, and mediator. Steve received his undergraduate and law degrees from Stanford University. After practicing for 12 years as a trial lawyer, Steve returned to graduate school and earned a doctoral degree in psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, where he has since taught as a member of the adjunct faculty. As a mediator Steve combines his background in law and psychology to help parties resolve the legal as well as the emotional underpinnings of their disputes. He also offers trainings to lawyer-mediators entitled The Psychology of Effective Mediation. He serves on the mediation panels of the California First District Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the Marin County Superior court. He is former chair of the Marin County Bar Association's Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, and is a member of the Association for Dispute Resolution of Northern California, the Association for Conflict Resolution, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, as well as numerous legal and psychological organizations. |
